Amira Wi-Fi Coverage: Five Checks Before Adding an Access Point

One weak room does not always mean you need a faster internet plan. If Wi-Fi drops at your desk or TV in an Amira home, check where the problem begins before buying another extender. Amira is in Tomball, but the right network design still depends on the individual floor plan and equipment.

Five useful checks

  1. Test close to the gateway. If service is slow even there, note the time and ask your ISP to check the connection or gateway.
  2. Test the troublesome room with the same device. A consistent drop only in that location suggests an in-home coverage issue.
  3. Compare a wired device if possible. Good Ethernet performance while distant Wi-Fi struggles helps narrow the problem.
  4. Look at gateway placement. A cabinet or far corner may be convenient for wires but poor for wireless reach. Keep equipment ventilated.
  5. Identify existing Ethernet jacks. A working, tested cable may support a better-placed wired access point.

FAQ: Do I need a mesh kit or an access point?

Either may help in the right circumstances. A wired access point gets network data over Ethernet instead of repeating an already-weak wireless signal. Its placement should follow the places people actually use devices. Learn about American Installs' access-point installation service.

FAQ: Will this fix an ISP outage?

No. An access point cannot restore service that never reaches the gateway. That is why the first wired and near-gateway checks matter.
